The Business Unit Performance Analysis template enables you to monitor and compare the financial performance of multiple business units. It consolidates data for sales, costs, margins, and budget variance into one automated workflow with a dynamic dashboard for real-time financial insights.

How the Workflow is Structured

The workflow has:

  • Record Business Entry form – Capture all real or budgeted financial transactions for each business unit.

  • Business Unit Performance spreadsheet – Centralized database and calculation sheet that organizes sales, costs, and budget data.

  • Dashboard – Provides financial visualizations for sales contribution, margin analysis, and variance tracking.

Steps to use the template

Step 1: Install the Template

  1. Install the template from this link: Business unit performance analysis

  2. Once installed, the workflow will open in your Sheetgo workspace at app.sheetgo.com.

  3. You’ll see helpful notes in the right-side panel of your workflow.

πŸ‘‰ Before starting, delete the sample data in the spreadsheets (but keep the headers and formulas).

Step 2: Share with Colleagues

  • Share the Record Business Entry form with finance or department heads to collect inputs.

  • Restrict access to the Business Unit Performance spreadsheet to admins only.

  • Share the Dashboard with management and stakeholders for decision-making and tracking.

Refer to the following articles to share workflows, forms, dashboard and files:

Step 3: Adjust Account Configuration

In the Configuration tab, you can customize account categories and reference names. This mapping helps the dashboard correctly group expenses and revenue under Variable Cost, Fixed Cost, or Sales.

Step 4: Record Financial Data

Use the Record Business Entry form to log new financial entries for each business unit.

  • Select the Account (e.g., Sales, Direct Cost, Rent, Insurance, etc.).

  • Choose whether the record represents a Budget or Real entry.

  • Enter the Date and Amount.

  • Select the Business Unit (e.g., Business Unit 1, 2, or 3).

All entries are automatically stored in the Business Registers tab of the spreadsheet.

Step 5: Inputs Configuration

In the Inputs tab, define what data to display in the dashboard:

  • Select Year and Month to generate time-specific analysis.

  • Use Report View to display only the selected month or a cumulative view across months.

Step 6: Review Business Registers

All form submissions are collected automatically in the Business Registers tab.

Each row includes:

  • Record ID

  • Account name

  • Real / Budget indicator

  • Date

  • Amount

  • Business Unit

  • Reference Account name (linked from Configuration)

Step 7: Analyze Financial Performance

The Dashboard tab and Dashboard view in Sheetgo visualize all performance indicators across business units.
