Why the file picker won't open (or shows the wrong files) in Sheetgo add-on

Troubleshoot Google Drive picker issues in the Sheetgo add-on, including wrong account, blocked cookies, extensions, and connection problems.

Why the file picker won't open (or shows the wrong files) in the Sheetgo Add-on for Google Sheets

When you add a source or destination in the Sheetgo Add-on, you select a file using the Google Drive file picker. Most of the time it just works. Now and then it doesn't open, opens under a different Google account than you expected, looks empty, or your file selection doesn't go through.

Almost all of these come from your browser settings or how you're signed in to Google, not from a problem inside your spreadsheet. This article covers what you might see and how to fix it.

Start here: three fixes that solve most cases

Before looking at a specific symptom, try these. They resolve the vast majority of file-picker problems.

  1. Use one Google account at a time. If you're signed in to more than one Google account in the same browser, that's the single most common cause. Sign out of the others, or open your spreadsheet in an Incognito/private window signed in to just the account you want to use, then try again.

  2. Allow cookies for Google. The picker relies on cookies from docs.google.com. Safari, private/incognito windows, and strict privacy settings often block them. Allow cookies (or turn off tracking prevention) for docs.google.com and reload the page.

  3. Pause your browser extensions. Ad blockers and privacy extensions sometimes block the picker from loading. Turn them off for this site (or open an Incognito window with extensions disabled) and try again.

If the picker still doesn't work, find your symptom below.

What you're seeing, and how to fix it

The picker won't open, or the spinner never finishes

You click Select from Google Drive and nothing appears, the loading spinner keeps going, or you get a message that the picker "didn't open."

The usual causes are, in order of how often we see them:

  • More than one Google account is signed in; the most common one. See the section below on Multiple Google accounts.

  • Blocked cookies. See the section below on Third-party cookies are blocked.

  • A browser extension. See the section below on A browser extension or ad blocker is blocking it.

  • A slow or dropped connection. Wait a few seconds and click Try again.

The picker opens under the wrong Google account, or you can't find your file

The picker opens, but it's showing a different account's Google Drive than the one you meant to use, so the file you want isn't there.

This happens when you're signed in to more than one Google account. See the section below on Multiple Google accounts.

The picker opens, but it looks empty, or your files don't show up

A few things to check:

  • Make sure the picker shows the correct Google account. See the section below on Multiple Google accounts.

  • Use the search box at the top of the picker to search for the file by name.

  • Confirm the file is a supported type: a Google Sheet, an Excel file (.xlsx, .xls), or a CSV.

  • If the file lives on a Shared Drive (a Google Workspace team drive), try searching for it by name, or make a copy in your own My Drive and select that.

"The Google Drive picker didn't load"

This message means the picker's code couldn't load in your browser. Usually, it's a network issue or something blocking the request:

  • Check your internet connection and click Try again.

  • Pause ad blockers or privacy extensions and try again.

  • If you're on a work or school network, a firewall or proxy may be blocking Google's scripts. Try a different network or a personal account.

"We couldn't connect to your Google Drive"

This is usually a temporary hiccup connecting to Google. Click Try again. If it keeps happening, reload the spreadsheet and reopen the add-on.

"Your file selection wasn't received"

Your file was selected, but it didn't make it back to the add-on. This is almost always a one-off. Just select the file again.

The common causes, explained

1. You're signed in to more than one Google account

This is the cause we see most often. When you're signed in to several Google accounts in the same browser (for example, a personal account and a work account), Google sometimes opens the file picker under a different account than the one you're using the add-on in. When that happens, the picker may fail to open at all, or it may open showing the wrong account's files.

How to fix it, best option first:

  • Use a single account. Sign out of every Google account except the one you want to use with Sheetgo, then reload the spreadsheet and try again.

  • Make the right account your default. Google treats the first account you signed into as the default. If you can, sign out of all accounts and sign back in with the account you want to use first.

  • Use an Incognito or private window. Open a private window, sign in to just the one account, open your spreadsheet there, and add your file.

  • Use a separate browser profile for the Sheetgo account, so it's always on its own.

2. Third-party cookies are blocked

The file picker runs inside a window from docs.google.com, and it needs cookies from that domain to work. Some browsers and settings block those by default:

  • Safari blocks cross-site cookies by default.

  • Firefox and Brave have strict blocking in some modes.

  • Incognito/private windows block third-party cookies.

  • Work or school devices may have this enforced by an administrator.

To fix it, allow cookies (or disable "prevent cross-site tracking") for itdocs.google.com, then reload. The exact setting name and location vary by browser and version, so look under your browser's Privacy or Cookies settings. If you're on a managed work device, your administrator may need to allow it.

3. A browser extension or ad blocker is blocking it

Ad blockers, privacy tools, and some security extensions can stop the picker from loading. Pause your extensions for this site (or open an Incognito window with extensions turned off) and try again. If that fixes it, add an exception for docs.google.com and apis.google.com so you don't have to disable the extension every time.

4. Network or connection problems

A slow, unstable, or restricted connection can stop the picker from loading or connecting. Click Try again, check your connection, and if you're on a corporate VPN or firewall, try a different network to rule it out.

5. Work or school (Google Workspace) account restrictions

If you're using a Google Workspace account managed by an employer or school, an administrator may restrict third-party apps or block the cookies the picker needs. If none of the fixes above work and you're on a managed account, your Workspace administrator may need to allow it, or you can try the add-on with a personal Google account.
